At Green Octave, we can help prepare students to take standardized music exams like the Certificate of Merit and ABRSM Exam. All of our teachers are trained at at professional level to be able to teach toward higher music goals such as these national and international standard of music education. We also can help prepare students for auditions in school musicals, instrumental groups or music camps.
What is the Certificate of Merit? The Music Teachers’ Association of California® (MTAC) sponsors the music study program Certificate of Merit® (CM). The program provides a standard of curriculum that requires students to strive for focused musical excellence in performance, technique, ear training, sight reading/singing, and music theory. Initiated in 1933, the annual statewide program involves approximately 30,000 students in piano, violin, cello, viola, flute, French horn, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, baritone/euphonium horn, voice, and harp.
What is the ABRSM Exam? The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) is an examinations board and registered charity based in London, UK, which provides examinations in music at centres around the world. ABRSM is the UK’s largest music education body, one of its largest music publishers and the world’s leading provider of music exams, offering assessments to over 600,000 candidates in over 90 countries every year. The exam is aimed to motivate the all-round musician for their interlocking skills – in performance, technique, notation, and listening and musical perception – as well as knowledge, understanding and creativity.
